Main Street Fort Smith is excited to announce the launch of its first Mini-Grant Program, designed to support business and property owners located within the Main Street Fort Smith district with projects that preserve and enhance the area’s historic character.
Funded through Main Street Arkansas and the Arkansas Department of Heritage, the program will provide 50/50 reimbursement grants ranging from $1,500 to $7,500. Projects must align with downtown’s form-based codes and demonstrate a commitment to historic preservation while contributing to the economic vitality and vibrancy of the district.
“Our downtown is full of incredible buildings and stories,” said Amanda Hager, Executive Director of Main Street Fort Smith. “This program gives property and business owners an opportunity to invest in their spaces while preserving the architectural elements that make Fort Smith unique. These improvements strengthen our business community, encourage visitors, and inspire others to reinvest in downtown.”

● Applications open: October 1, 2025 ● Deadline to apply: November 14, 2025
● Grant awards announced: No later than December 15, 2025
● Project completion deadline: April 15, 2026 (with possible 30-day extension at the discretion of the Executive Director)
Examples of eligible projects include façade improvements such as awnings, masonry repair, exterior paint, signage, lighting, and other preservation-focused updates. All grants are reimbursement-based, requiring documentation such as paid invoices, proof of payment, and after-photos before funds are released.
