This May, The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum (RAM) is excited to announce two new exhibitions that celebrate the art of our region! Join RAM for the opening of Jon Williams: No Reservations and Reflections in Water on Friday, May 15, from 5 to 7 pm.
Opening in the Marta Jones Gallery, No Reservations will feature the artwork of Jon Williams, who is renowned for his striking wood sculptures and paintings that delve into the narratives of Native American life, culture, and resilience.
“This exhibition aims to captures the spirit and heart of so many Native Americans I have met and have had the pleasure of knowing,” states Williams, “...As a Native American artist, it’s important to me that we recognize and honor all the Native Americans that were forcibly relocated to Indian Territory. Fighting to successfully reestablish their homes, traditions and culture, their story is one that must not be forgotten.”
Reflections in Water, located in the Sandi & Sandy Sanders Gallery, will showcase selected works from the RAM Permanent Collection. This exhibition offers a captivating exploration of watercolor art, highlighting the beauty and versatility of this medium. Featured works include watercolor pieces from regional artists such as Timothy J. Clark, Daniel Kerlin, and Kay Aclin.
The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum invites the community to experience these new exhibitions, beginning with an opening reception on Friday, May 15, from 5 to 7 PM. Reception is free with light refreshments provided. After opening night, these exhibitions will be on view through September 13.
