FORT SMITH, Ark. – Chaffee Crossing Historic District warmly invites members of the community to join us for a very special and intimate gathering on Wednesday evening, September 30th at 6:00 p.m. at Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum, 7313 Terry Street, Fort Smith.
This “meet and greet” will feature singer Teresa Mai, who performs under the stage name Sangeeta Kaur. She was Grammy Award-winner in 2022 for the album Mythologies, along with her dear friends, soprano Hila Plitmann and composer Danaë Vlasse. The Mythologies album was inspired by Greek mythologies from our half-rooted Greek composer Danaë.
In 2024, this talented trio continued their collaboration on a follow-up album, Mythologies II, featuring the renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of the United Kingdom, pianist Robert Thies, and tenor Omar Najmi. The album was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios and was nominated for a Grammy Award last Year.
Following the meet and greet on September 30th, Sangeeta will perform on Saturday, October 3rd with the Fort Smith Symphony, conducted by Maestro John Jeter, who will present the World Premiere of Mythologies I & II.
“Teresa Mai, representing the first generation of Vietnamese-Americans born in the United States, is a testament to this achievement. Her parents were also refugees who came to America following the events of April 1975. Fort Chaffee, the largest of the four refugee camps established for Vietnamese refugees in 1975, will now witness a deeply moving full-circle moment: the first Vietnamese-American Grammy Award winner returning to the very place that once welcomed and sheltered Vietnamese immigrants more than half a century ago.” Hai Nguyen stated.
This special evening at the Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum offers the community a rare opportunity to meet Sangeeta Kaur, hear her sing a few tunes, and share in a meaningful moment of history where Chaffee’s past connects with its present. Join us for an intimate evening of conversation, connection, and music as we celebrate the stories that began here and the remarkable places they can lead.
This event will take place on Wednesday, September 30th at 6:00 PM. Donation of your choice will be requested at the door. All funds raised will support the preservation of Chaffee history.
