Fall in Fort Smith is always a reason to celebrate and this October, the city is going all in. On Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., downtown Fort Smith will come alive with the sights, sounds and flavors of Fall Fest, an annual celebration of history, community, and everything we love about autumn in Arkansas.
Hosted by the Fort Smith National Historic Site and proudly sponsored by the City of Fort Smith, Fall Fest is more than just a festival. It’s a citywide partnership of museums, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers coming together to create an unforgettable day. From cannon firings to street tacos and corgi parades, there is truly something for everyone.

What makes Fort Smith Fall Festival special among Arkansas fall festivals is its mix of history and family-friendly activities. With free entry to all museums in town, free trolley rides connecting key attractions, and reenactors bringing the city’s rich history to life, it’s like having an all-access pass to explore Fort Smith’s heritage in just one day.
“Fall Fest is the largest historical-themed event in the region,” said Cody Faber, park ranger at the Fort Smith National Historic Site and lead organizer. “We are very proud of our history and this event gives everyone (from families with young children to motorcycle riders stopping downtown) the chance to explore it together and for free.”

Historical Reenactments – Meet soldiers from the War of 1812 through World War II, watch deputy marshals patrol the streets, and see the famous Belle Starr trial reenactment at both the Historic Site (10 a.m.) and the Museum of History (1 p.m.).

Cannon and Cavalry Demonstrations – Nothing draws a crowd like live artillery. Children can even join the “School the Soldier” program with wooden muskets and try on period clothes in the old courtroom. Check out the schedule.

October Corgi Festival – If you’ve ever wanted to see a hundred corgis in costume, this is your chance. Don’t miss the parade and contest at Riverfront Drive, right between the Marshals Museum and the skate park. Learn more.

Where do I park?
Parking is available all over downtown, but the easiest option is to park near a trolley stop and ride into the festival. How do I get around?
Free historic trolleys and shuttles will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., courtesy of Main Street Fort Smith. Hop on and off to see the Corgi Festival, museums, or downtown vendors without moving your car. You are welcome to drive your vehicle to the destinations. Please note that some roads will be closed during the festival, and town traffic will be heavier than usual.
What can I eat?
Food trucks and vendors will set up in the alley between the National Historic Site and the Museum of History, offering local favorites. You’ll also be just steps away from restaurants in the Bakery District, Entertainment District and along Garrison Avenue, perfect for grabbing a bite and enjoying the fall atmosphere.
